The Batang Kali-Genting road is set reopen in January 2023.

The road has been closed since mid-December 2022 following the deadly landslide which claimed the lives of 31 campers at grounds below the slope. Subsequently, the Ministry of Works decided to close the route for further investigations and repairs, estimated to take at least 1 year.

This decision was met with concern by the population as well as other resort operators in the area; in addition to those who use the route to commute to work at Genting Highland.

In view of this, the Menteri Besar of Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari met with Jabatan Kerja Raya Selangor (Works Department of Selangor) on 23 December 2022 to discuss the matter. The latter acquiesced by promising to widen the road, as well as reopen it to lighter vehicles beginning January 2023.

The reopening is claimed to benefit 4,000 to 5,000 among the population of Batang Kali.

"We will widen the left and right shoulders of the Batang Kali-Genting road to enable the population to use it.

"The area has been piled with rocks and compacted, and we will send a security team to direct traffic there."

On another note, the Chief Minister said that the Selangor government will not hold any events to celebrate the new year as respect for the victims of the landslide. On the other hand, they will not stop other parties such as private companies or the population nearby from celebrating but he recommended that they celebrate in modesty.
