The Kawasaki brand of motorcycles were relaunched in Malaysia yesterday, with Modenas as the new distributor. Three Kawasaki models were also rebadged as Modenas, namely the Ninja 250 ABS, Ninja 250, and Z250.

All three models utilize the same 250cc, liquid-cooled, DOHC, parallel-twin platform, which produces 36.8 hp (27.5 kW) at 12,000 RPM and 23.0 Nm at 10,000 RPM. Our previous tests have yielded at top speed of near 190 km/h on the Ninja 250.

Of note here is that the Ninja 250 is available with or without ABS. The non-ABS version is cheaper and 2 kg lighter than the ABS version.

Speaking of prices, the selling prices are:

Kawasaki Ninja 250: RM 18,900 (available in Metallic Carbon Grey and Metallic Matte Graphite).

Kawasaki Ninja 250 ABS: RM 20,500 (available in Matte Graphite Grey).

Kawasaki Z250 ABS: RM 19,500 (available in Spark Black).

All three models will be available at authorised dealers from 1 August 2022.

The Kawasaki brand has gone through a change in the past three years, specifically after the Kawasaki Motorcycle Limited (part of Kawasaki Heavy Industries or KHI) announced purchasing the shares of Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional, better known as Modenas, some years ago. Following that move, Modenas will now assemble 250cc Kawasaki motorcycles at their factory in Gurun, Kedah, and rebrand them as Modenas.

On the other hand, 650cc models and above will be fully assembled in Japan and imported to Malaysia. These will be imported and launched in Malaysia later this year.

Modenas will also take charge of the aftersales side, including spare parts and servicing.
