The all-new, 2022 KTM RC200 was launched in Malaysia with at a tantalising price of only RM 15,888. It was launched amongst other new models at the Eurotech Wheel Distribution "Shift the Paradigm" event.

The previous generation of KTM RC models began with the RC200 and proved to be a great hit among Malaysian motorcycle enthusiasts. Most owners loved the design of a roadgoing race replica, what more with several innovative features, light weight and affordable pricing.

This new generation RC200 moves the bar one step further by addressing the flaws of the previous generation besides introducing new features and wrapping it all up in an all-new sexy bodywork.

Highlights

  • New, 199.5cc, single-cylinder, DOHC, liquid-cooled engine which produces 24.5 hp @ 10,000 RPM and 19.5 Nm of torque at 8,000 RPM. This engine is different to the one fitted on the 2021 KTM 200 Duke.

  • New frame with detachable subframe. KTM engineers were able to save 1.4 kg from its overall weight. Additionally, it has a "quick" rake of 23.2 degrees.  It is also different to the frame of the 2021 200 Duke.
  • The new frame also seems to provide more maximum handlebar turn angle, too.

  • New WP APEX Big Piston forks, WP APEX rear shock absorber.
  • New wheels with fewer spokes, saving a total of 3.4 kg from both front and rear wheels.
  • Total dry weight is a lithe 151 kg!

  • New radially-mounted 4-piston ByBre brake caliper clamping a 320 mm disc up front.
  • Bosch 9.1 MB two-channel ABS with Supermoto mode.
  • New halogen headlamp with LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

  • New bodywork with CFD designed aerodynamics for more downforce while channeling engine heat away from rider. The front portion around the headlights right up to the rider is a massive transparent windshield.

  • New TFT multi-display screen.

  • Battery, ECU and fuse box packed into area behind the fuel tank for ease of access and mass centralisation.

  • New upper fork triple clamps and clip on handlebars.
  • New split seats with grippy covering material, with the addition of grab rails for the passenger.

The new KTM RC200 can be seen as a legitimate contender in the small-capacity sportbike category, given all these new features combined with the legendary handling KTM is famous for at such a surprising price. The closest competitor is the just-launched Yamaha YZF-R15M which sells for RM 14,998. However, the Yamaha lacks 43cc, a TFT screen, a 4-piston front brake caliper, and high-end suspension.
